The Vancouver salmon fishing season is in full swing. The last 2 weeks have been nothing but excellent. We’ve been fishing mainly up Howe Sound near Furry creek. Most days have been easy to catch limits of Pink salmon casting at them in the shallows with Gibbs pink jigs. There also has been some decent fishing on the West van shoreline. There have been some real nice Springs, Coho, and Pink salmon caught all the way from the fisheries station to right at the light at the Capilano river. The main run of Pink and Socheye salmon are still to come to the Fraser river which should arrive any day and it sounds like they could open us for Socheye any day. If you’re thinking of a trip book soon we’re nearlly booked up for all of August and September is getting there also. If you have anymore questions feel free to call I will help you any way I can if i’m booked i will recomend a few people to you. Crabbing remains okay, although we’ve not been doing it often and prawning is good. Till next time good luck. Mark

Sorry for the long periods betweeen reports. The fishing over the last few days there were mixed with some great but some with not so great days. We’re still waiting for summer to arrive so we can get started with the Vancouver salmon fishing season. The Gulf islands around the area of Thrasher still report red hot or for some people cold. I know a lot of boats that were limited out with one boat catching 8 with several others with 4 or 6 but there were also a lot of boats with 1. They were in pockets and if you hit one of the pockets you did great. Most of the springs were betweeen 12 and 18 pounds. This side of the strait closer to down town Vancouver has had mixed reports also. The Capilano river has a bunch of Coho in it in the next week or so if it doesn’t rain there will be good fishing on the West van shoreline for Coho and a few Spring salmon. Howe Sound over the last few days has been producing also with Grace islands, hole in the wall and Defence islands producing some nice Springs up to 20lbs. One boat at Defence got 4 nice ones on Saturday, the biggest being 19lbs. A good week over all if the water stays nice and calm and we fianlly get some summer weather it’s looking like a good month in front of us. Until next time good luck if you need any questions asked feel free to call and i will help you out any way i can.
Finally some sun 2 days in a row. The best fishing in vancouver is still to head to the gulf islands for a full day trip. The best fishing seems to be at Thrasher Rock to a few miles out and up to the Grande. Alot of boats are still getting there limits if they hit the pockets of fish and most of the fish seem to weigh in the teens. Its a great day to go over to the Gulf islands and with Watermark being 34ft if the wind blows up we will still get a nice ride home and we just turn the heat on. This side of the Strait it has slowed down a bit the South end of Bowen island has slowed down and usually does at this time of year. Howe Sound has produced some nice fish at Hutt, Defence islands, Porteau Cove, and Hole in the Wall in the last week and most fish weighing in the teens with the biggest i know of being in the low 20’s. I will be out a lot this week with a weekend in the Gulf islands and a couple days in the week so till the next report good luck. If you need to book a charter or get any other info you need about Vancouver i would be pleased to help. Have a good few next days.
Well today we headed out on a charter, it wasn’t supposed to be the best day, but when we got to the South end of Bowen island we realised it was calm and the weather report was wrong. We headed over to Thrasher rock in the Gulf islands. It was worth it, as it was the best day of fishing of the year so far. We only fished 3 rods 143ft, 163ft, and 183ft one with a spoon, hootchie, and an anchovie. It didn’t matter what rod or lure they all got hit. We limited out very quickly with 4 nice Springs weighing betweeen 12 and 18lbs. After we limited out we realeased 4 more nice Spring biggest one being around 18lb and smallest about 13lbs and had 6 other ones on. We only had one undersize fish. We stopped fishing around 1230 after it had started to flood and the bait seemed to disappear and headed back over the the Straight of Georgia to Howe sound. We checked the prawn traps and did very well then headed into horseshoe bay. It was the best day of the year for us but has been very good over there for the last couple weeks or so. The South end of Bowen has still been producing some nice Springs also and there has been a rumor that some big fish have caught up Howe Sound. The next week looks good and the weather is going to get better for the long weekend so good luck till next time.
The fishing in vancouver has picked up a bit in the last few days since the last report. The South end of Bowen island has started to produce, not in great numbers, but most boats are coming home with at least one nice Spring salmon. The weather still has been a problem with rain and wind it is the end of April so Spring in vancouver has to get here soon and give us the weather we’re used to at this time of year. Most people are fishing the South end of Bowen island now but a few fish have been hit up Howe Sound and on the West side of Bowen island for the few that have gone there. The Gulf islands have started to be better also from fishing right off Thrasher rock to fishing a few miles off the rock. I will say it again hopefully the weather starts to be like the weather we’re used to in Vancouver at this time of year and warm up stop raining and we can get back to the fishing we’re used to. The crabbing and prawning remains great now just need the vancouver weather to start to be nice and we will be out most days chartering the vancouver waters. Good luck till next time.
Another weekend on the water around vancouvers salmon fishing grounds. Howe Sound has started to heat up like it does every early April with Grace, Hutt island, 3rd marker, Gower point and Defence all producing fish with half a dozen fish caught close to 20lbs between the places in the last week. It still seems to be if you find the bait you stand a good chance at catching some nice Spring into the low 20 pound range. It should only keep getting better and when the weather gets a bit nicer a lot more boats will be fishing alot more including the Watermark. The South end of Bowen island should start to heat up in the next week. The crabbing and prawning remains very good in Howe Sound and should continue. If you want a daily report feel free to call be glad to give you an honest report. Until next time good luck
Another couple days on the water with mixed results. Thursday we headed up Howe Sound in the morning and fished for Pinks. We ended up with 3 Pinks had a few more hits and lost 4 or 5. When we arrived the Pinks were schooling around we got a couple right away and then the seal moved in took one off our line and scattered the schools and they never came back. Not a bad morning but could off been alot better if the seals had not bothered us. The morning in English bay on the West Van shoreline was very slow. A few boats moved over to the Bell Buoy later in the morning and caught some Sockeye that had to be released, a few Pinks and a couple boats got a Spring. The afternoon we headed down to the West Van shoreline to fish the flood tide that had produced the last few days. The fishing was very slow I saw one boat get a small Coho or Pink. Later in the evening a few Springs got hit at the Bell Buoy a friend of mine got a 15 and 20lb right near the high slack. This morning was a different story quite a few boats at the Bell Buoy did well with a few boats getting 4 or 5 Springs all high teens to mid twenty’s. We went up Howe Sound again this morning and it was the complete difference from the morning before. We limited out on Pinks in a very short time and realeased 28 over the next couple hours and lost a bunch more. A great day on the water all around Vancouver. Crabbing remains great with alot of 7 inch Dungeness crab.
Another warm and sunny day on the waters around vancouver. Very calm and hot today on the water. The West Van shoreline produced a few fish today. We fished for a few hours today kept 1 Pink and lost 3 Pinks and realeased 4 little Lingcod. Another boat near the Fishery Station hit a Coho, and a Pink. The Gulf Isalnds produced again with a boat getting a 15lb Halibut and 2 Springs around 20lbs each and lost 2 others at Thrasher Rock. It’s very surprising that a Halibut keeps getting hit every few days a great sign if they stick around. Howe Sound a few more Pinks showed up at Furry Creek with a few of the beach casters getting a few more today early in the morning. Crabbing remains very good for Dungeness Crab. Getting close to August a few more fish showing up every day looks great for August.
Vancouver Salmon Fishing is continuing to get better after weeks of being slow. The West Van shoreline is producing Pinks, Coho, Springs and evan getting an odd Sockeye. The Pinks and Sockeye have started to show up in the last week. The start of over 20 million returning to the Vancouver area and the river systems. Howe Sound the start off the Squamish Pinks have started to show up not in huge numbers yet but by August Howe Sound will be stacked with them. The Gulf Islands are still producing some very nice Springs and surprisingly a few more Halibut were hit this week. Things look great for August and September. Crabbing remains great, lots of big dungeness crab nothing like a crab and salmon barbeque after a day on the water. August is filling up book now for a great day on the water Vancouver Salmon Fishing.
Fishing was alot better today with Sockeye, Pink, Coho, and some Springs showing up on the West Van shoreline. On the flood this morning quite a few fish were taken from the Pink apartment down to the marker off the Capilano River. There also later in the day a few Pinkis were taken off the Fishery Station. In the last couple days these fish have moved in this is what we’ve been waiting for the last couple weeks it should get better every day. The Gulf islands The Grande and Thrasher rock some good fishing for Springs continues when the water lets us get over to that side. Howe Sound a few Pinks have shown up any day now we should get a big push off them up the Sound to the Defense Islands, and Furry Creek area. Things are looking very positive for the next month for Coho, Pink and Sockeye with a few Springs mixed in. Crabbing remains very good with lots off big dungeness crab. Until next time good luck
The past few days some fish have started to show up. In Howe Sound there has been a few Pink salmon hit and some Springs. It’s nice to see the Pinks salmon it’s a bit early for them but when the first few show up it’s not long before Furry Creek, and Porteau Cove get hit by the thousands and limits happen every day. English Bay and the West Van shoreline not much seems to be happening on the Ebb. The big tides this week blows those fish out into the Strait Off Georgia. The Flood tide had been not bad some days with a boat yesterday getting 2 15lbs Springs and losing another one while another boat got a couple Coho and a Spring with a few more hits. Not many boats have been fishing off the Fraser River this week but the few boats that have gone down to the lightship which is off the South arm of the river have caught some nice Springs. There’re a few Sockeye in the river so very soon we should be catching and keying on them (waiting for them to open them for us). The Gulf islands, Thrasher rock, and the Grande if you put in the time through a tide has not been bad with a couple Springs up to 30lbs have been caught in the last few days. We fished today and headed up Howe Sound to try and see if we could find Pinks. We checked out the usual spots that we cast for them and nothing was there we saw a couple flip but no big schools to key on. We only picked up one Pink today but a beautiful day on the water flat calm and hot. The test sets up north have been great not long till we have more fish than we know what to do with. Call now for charters August is booking up quick.
Fishing has been picking up the last few days. With the water being calm the last few days people have gotten over to the Gulf Islands. Thrasher Rock and the Grande have produced. Some boats have done very well limiting out on Spring salmon up to 30lbs most fish seem to be in the high teens. This fishery is great you drag the bottom so you’re usually busy with some kind off bottom fish if you don’t have a Spring on. On this side off the Straight of Georgia, Howe Sound some nice Springs have been taken off Hole in the Wall, Grace, and Salmon Rock. In English Bay the Bell Buoy has quite a few undersize Springs with the odd big one. The West van shoreline seems to still be active when you get on top off a school of Coho with a Spring mixed in. I got my first Sockeye of the year yesterday off the sailing club off 14th street that was a surprise hitting a spoon we also lost a Coho, had a couple other hits, a few small salmon, and a few cod when we were dragging the bottom off the pink apartment. There seems to be quite alot of small salmon (grilse) on there way out to see a good sign for years to come.

The weather finally sounds like it’s going to stop raining and dry out. The Gulf islands fishing has been good one day spotty the next. Fishing the Grande dragging bottom has been producing there also have been 3 or 4 halibut caught in the last 2 weeks in the Gulf islands. T10 south has been producing one here one there but with the water and weather changing should start to get back to where it was a couple weeks ago. The West van shoreline is still producing a Coho here and there and a few undersize Springs with the odd legal Spring. This area should get better after a few days of no rain and the fish will start to stack up again. Howe Sound has started to produce some nice Springs Hole in the Wall has produced some nice Springs up to 30lbs with a few Jack Springs mixed in. Other places that has produced fish in Howe Sound Salmon Rock, West side of Bowen, and Grace Islands and the Hole in the Wall area up past Sunset marina. Sounds like the weather is going to be sunny with no rain so things should look better in a few days. Only a couple more weeks till the Pink salmon hit Howe sound.
Another great day on the water in the waters around vancouver. It was slow down South today off T10 and the South arm of the Fraser river mainly because the Killer Whales went through yesterday so it’ll take a day or so for the fish to turn back on down there or we will have to wait for the next batch to come in. The West van shoreline in English Bay was good for some boats this morning mainly West of the Capilano between 14th street and 29th street. We had trouble getting them in this morning only landed 1 nice hatchery Coho, released 2 undersize Springs and lost 6 Coho. Crabbing was good again we kept 8 nice big dungeness. The afternoon trip was also nice calm and warm we fished the same place on the West Van shoreline we limited out with 6 nice hatchery Coho, lost a bunch and got a bunch of nice Dungeness crab on the way in. The Coho seemed to be abit smaller today than earlier in the week so there’re fresh fish moving in it seems with every flood tide.
