Finally some sun 2 days in a row. The best fishing in vancouver is still to head to the gulf islands for a full day trip. The best fishing seems to be at Thrasher Rock to a few miles out and up to the Grande. Alot of boats are still getting there limits if they hit the pockets of fish and most of the fish seem to weigh in the teens. Its a great day to go over to the Gulf islands and with Watermark being 34ft if the wind blows up we will still get a nice ride home and we just turn the heat on. This side of the Strait it has slowed down a bit the South end of Bowen island has slowed down and usually does at this time of year. Howe Sound has produced some nice fish at Hutt, Defence islands, Porteau Cove, and Hole in the Wall in the last week and most fish weighing in the teens with the biggest i know of being in the low 20’s. I will be out a lot this week with a weekend in the Gulf islands and a couple days in the week so till the next report good luck. If you need to book a charter or get any other info you need about Vancouver i would be pleased to help. Have a good few next days.

Today was not a very nice day on the water on the South end of Bowen island. It was howling south east, we headed out for a few hours anyway to see if we could get lucky. We got lucky and hit a nice 15 or 16lb Spring at 123ft on bait, we hit nothing else for the rest of the day, but it was not easy fishing when it was blowing over 20 knots. The few boats that did get out mainly got a crack at one. We didn’t stay out long as it looked like the wind was only getting worse. Did well prawning again, hopefully the wind comes down which it’s supposed to and we should get back to doing what we were a few days ago. Nobody fished the Gulf islands as it was too rough. Good luck till next time we’re out quite abit in the next week so should have some great pics and reports to come.
Another decent week around Vancouver with the gulf islands really started to come on. With the weather being better this week people have been out on the water a bit more and more fish have been hit. Howe sound has died off a bit but not many people have been fishing the sound since the South end of Bowen island has started to produce. There seems to be good days followed by a slower day. One reason for this is the killer whales have come by a few times this week so have a few big groups of dolphin. The salmon have generally been caught between 100 – 150ft on a mixture of spoons, hootchies, and bait. The fish that have been caught have been 14 to 20lbs real nice fish for this time of year. The Gulf islands from North of Naniamo to Thrasher has been nothing but excelent. Mainly fishing offshore 2 to 4 miles many boats have been limiting out with fish between 15 – 25lbs and it should continue with the South end of Bowen getting better also as the fish move down. Most of the fish over the other side of the Strait have been caught between 120 – 180 ft on spoons and hootchies. Crabbing and prawning remain good. Good luck till next time
This weekend we can finally say the Springs showed up in a big way off the South end of Bowen island. It’s better late than never the fish showed up just in time for the North Shore Fish and Game fishing derby on Sunday. There were over a hundred people entered into the derby and with the water flat calm and sunny everyone could get off into the Strait of Georgia and fish the south end of Bowen Island. The weigh in was at 2pm and there was an even 50 Springs weighed in, with the winning fish weighing 21lb 3oz. A great start and it should only get better for the next month. Good luck till next time hope for sunny calm water people now will be fishing alot more since this run has showed up and we will know where the fish are.
The fishing in vancouver has picked up a bit in the last few days since the last report. The South end of Bowen island has started to produce, not in great numbers, but most boats are coming home with at least one nice Spring salmon. The weather still has been a problem with rain and wind it is the end of April so Spring in vancouver has to get here soon and give us the weather we’re used to at this time of year. Most people are fishing the South end of Bowen island now but a few fish have been hit up Howe Sound and on the West side of Bowen island for the few that have gone there. The Gulf islands have started to be better also from fishing right off Thrasher rock to fishing a few miles off the rock. I will say it again hopefully the weather starts to be like the weather we’re used to in Vancouver at this time of year and warm up stop raining and we can get back to the fishing we’re used to. The crabbing and prawning remains great now just need the vancouver weather to start to be nice and we will be out most days chartering the vancouver waters. Good luck till next time.
Wow some nice weather finally hopefully this is the start of Spring in Vancouver. The vancouver fishing has still been abit slow but the weather has not helped much at all. Hopefully now the weather will let the Vancouver salmon fishing season really begin. In the last week not many people have been out fishing but Defence and Poteau Cove has produced a few fish for the few people that have ventured up Howe Sound. The South end of Bowen, which everyone has been waiting for, has still been slow but with the weather and the water conditions it has not been fished very much. The West side off Bowen island Tunstall, 3rd marker, Hutt, Grace islands a few fish have been caught. The Gulf islands a few fish have been caught off Thrasher rock which is a great. If this weather stays nice and it warms up we should see the fishing pick up quite quickly.
Another weekend on the water around vancouvers salmon fishing grounds. Howe Sound has started to heat up like it does every early April with Grace, Hutt island, 3rd marker, Gower point and Defence all producing fish with half a dozen fish caught close to 20lbs between the places in the last week. It still seems to be if you find the bait you stand a good chance at catching some nice Spring into the low 20 pound range. It should only keep getting better and when the weather gets a bit nicer a lot more boats will be fishing alot more including the Watermark. The South end of Bowen island should start to heat up in the next week. The crabbing and prawning remains very good in Howe Sound and should continue. If you want a daily report feel free to call be glad to give you an honest report. Until next time good luck
Great way to start the 1st charter of the season. Had a 3 people from P.E.I on there first Vancouver salmon fishing charter. We started the day off with checking the traps that had been left out in Howe sound the day before, we got 6 legal dungeness crab and 400 prawns, a great way to start the day.
We then headed over to the West side of Bowen island and started at 3rd marker before the high slack. We lost a small Spring salmon in the first half hour but nothing else. When the tide started to slow down near the high and the bait came into the area we hit a 16lb Spring dragging the bottom on an army truck spoon. Soon after we hit another 14lb Spring on the same thing dragging the bottom right off the cabin at 3rd marker. We trolled around for another hour the bait seemed to move on and a couple seals moved in also we called it a day and headed back to deal with the days catch. A good way to start the charter seaon the water was flat calm and didn’t rain till the last hour or so of the charter. Until next time good luck. Don’t forget to send us an email or give us a call if you would like to arrange a charter.Beautiful on the water the last few days when the wind wasn’t up. Fishing was a bit slow around Vancouver this weekend, but very few people were out fishing. I haven’t herd of anyone seeing the dolphins in Howe sound in the last week. If it’s like last year the fishing started to pick up pretty quickly after the dolphins left. There were fish caught here and there in the last few days with a nice 17lb Spring caught at 3rd marker on the West side of Bowen. Other places worth giving a shot include: Grace islands, Tunstal Bay (a few fish caught there), Vancouver harbour closer to the Capilano river seem to be good on the flood tide as there were a few smaller keepers caught. Defence islands tends to be where the bigger fish have been getting caught with a 21lber on friday and a 33lb caught a week ago. With the wind up on Sunday we couldn’t go very far, so we did a couple hours at Hole in the Wall and enjoyed the first run in the boat for this year. We did great on crab and prawns with the weather looking better this week. We should get out for some fishing in Vancouver. In the next few weeks with the weather improving more people will be out on the water and we will be getting alot more fishing reports and start to get busy doing charters in early April. Ended up taking some photos while we were out this weekend, check them out below or in the gallery. Good luck.
Welcome to 2011 it’s that time of year to start hitting the water. This year i have a new boat and have moved up to a 31ft pursuit. In the last month there has been some good fishing in the vancouver area. In English bay, at the Capilano river, has been the most productive fishing. From Dundarave to the Marker right off the Capilano river has produced some nice winter Springs with a few undersize Springs as well. The Gulf islands have produced some nice fish also at Thrasher and at the Grande with someone getting 4 legal at Porlier pass a few days ago. The west side of Bowen has been a bit slower than usual, but in the last month there have been 300 Dolphin in Howe Sound, a great sight to see but not so good for catching fish. Defence islands in Howe sound has had some good days with the biggest fish being 33lbs to date. The weather hasn’t been that great but with the forcast looking to be better. A lot more people will be hitting the water in the next few weeks and if we have fishing like we did last spring, it will be a great couple of months. By mid April we should be off the south end of Bowen island and if it’s half as good as last year there will be fun for everyone. Most fish have been hit on spoons and a few on bait. The crabbing and prawning remain very good and should continue. Tight lines, give me a call if you’d like any info on anything be glad to help you out in any way i can. Looking forward to a great 2011
Well the rain came and was it ever a downpour. For the few brave people that went fishing today up the Howe Sound, were they ever rewarded. There were Pink salmon everywhere! The 4 boats that I saw at the Spot where I was fishing, all limited out very quickly. We all released a alot of salmon as well. Today, we kept our 8 Pinks and released over 20 more in the morning. Hopefully this fishing continues!
Another couple days on the water with mixed results. Thursday we headed up Howe Sound in the morning and fished for Pinks. We ended up with 3 Pinks had a few more hits and lost 4 or 5. When we arrived the Pinks were schooling around we got a couple right away and then the seal moved in took one off our line and scattered the schools and they never came back. Not a bad morning but could off been alot better if the seals had not bothered us. The morning in English bay on the West Van shoreline was very slow. A few boats moved over to the Bell Buoy later in the morning and caught some Sockeye that had to be released, a few Pinks and a couple boats got a Spring. The afternoon we headed down to the West Van shoreline to fish the flood tide that had produced the last few days. The fishing was very slow I saw one boat get a small Coho or Pink. Later in the evening a few Springs got hit at the Bell Buoy a friend of mine got a 15 and 20lb right near the high slack. This morning was a different story quite a few boats at the Bell Buoy did well with a few boats getting 4 or 5 Springs all high teens to mid twenty’s. We went up Howe Sound again this morning and it was the complete difference from the morning before. We limited out on Pinks in a very short time and realeased 28 over the next couple hours and lost a bunch more. A great day on the water all around Vancouver. Crabbing remains great with alot of 7 inch Dungeness crab.
The weather finally sounds like it’s going to stop raining and dry out. The Gulf islands fishing has been good one day spotty the next. Fishing the Grande dragging bottom has been producing there also have been 3 or 4 halibut caught in the last 2 weeks in the Gulf islands. T10 south has been producing one here one there but with the water and weather changing should start to get back to where it was a couple weeks ago. The West van shoreline is still producing a Coho here and there and a few undersize Springs with the odd legal Spring. This area should get better after a few days of no rain and the fish will start to stack up again. Howe Sound has started to produce some nice Springs Hole in the Wall has produced some nice Springs up to 30lbs with a few Jack Springs mixed in. Other places that has produced fish in Howe Sound Salmon Rock, West side of Bowen, and Grace Islands and the Hole in the Wall area up past Sunset marina. Sounds like the weather is going to be sunny with no rain so things should look better in a few days. Only a couple more weeks till the Pink salmon hit Howe sound.
The fishing in the Vancouver area over the weekend had some good results. The West van shoreline has slowed down there’re a few schools of Coho down there so if you hit one you can do well and a few nice Springs were hit. T10 to the South arm some boats did quite qell this weekend for Springs but it was you were a hero or a zero. It looks like the Squamish fish have started to arrive into Howe Sound. There’ve been fish caught at Salmon Rock, the west side of Bowen, and Hole in the Wall to Sunset marina. Hole in the Wall yesterday had a fresh run off Springs come in the biggest I know off was 33lbs and one boat kept 3 Springs another kept 2 and about another half dozen were caught in the last say or so. They were all white Springs so definetly Squamish fish. If this is the start of the Squamish fish coming in the next couple weeks in Howe Sound will be the place to be. Nothing like a 5 minute run to the fishing grounds. Crabbing is still good with lots of large dungeness crab should stay this way for most of the summer.
Would be nice to see the North West wind blow itself out not very often we get 5 or 6 days in a row of it blowing down the Straight of Georgia. The last few days very few people have been able to get out to where the fish have been. The Gulf islands very few people have been able to fish, there was a boat that got out for a few hours and got into a couple nice Spring salmon and other than that it’s been rough. On our side of the Straight of Georgia there has been no news of anybody fishing off the Fraser River but the count in the river has been good so t10 down South should be good when the wind stops. In English Bay on the West van shoreline again very rough but the few hours that have been fishable some Coho and Spring salmon have been caught should be good when the wind dies down the Capilano River is down to a trickle again so those fish should just stack up. Howe Sound a few nice Springs have been caught again alot of these spots have been rough but some fish have been caught at Defence islands, 3rd marker (off west side of bowen island), Hutt island (off west side of bowen island), and hole in the wall which is just outside Horseshoe Bay. The good news is the wind is sappossed to die down to 10 to 15knots on friday which should make alot of these spots very fishable and hopefully get back to our calm vacouver waters that we’re used to. Crabbing is still good and should continue to be that way for the whole summer.
Today was the first not so good day in quite some time. It rained real hard on wednesday and the weather is changing back to sun so it’s not surprising it was slow everywhere today. The Gulf islands were slow but with the weather changing back to steady sun should be back in the next few days when the weather settles down. I was on the West van shoreline today in English Bay and it was very slow. A few nice Coho were taken in the early morning and that’s about all i herd. I fished in the afternoon and i did not hear or see a fish caught but with that rain those fish check the river out when it dries up in the next day or to the fish will start to stack up again it will just take a day or so. The Dungeness crabbing is still great 17 legal crab out of one trap yesterday. Big North west supposed to blow tomorrow should bring the sun back and should evan blow some Coho back to the West van shorline.
Still good fishing. The Gulf islands is still very good off five fingers and of the Grande just outside off Silva Bay. All nice big Springs has not been like that for years over there and it doesn’t seem like it’s slowing down. This side of the Strait of Georgia, in Howe Sounds at Hole in the Wall there has been a few nice Springs taken and a few Jack Springs also. Up Howe sound Defence has been producing Springs another good bet would be Porteau cove it’s just been great fishing everywhere else nobody has gone up there lately. The West van shoreline is still going strong for lots of Coho and the odd Spring mixed in there.
Another day on the water around vancouver. The West Van shoreline was nearlly unfishable and by late morning was not fishable. A few Coho were caught in the morning but it was so rough it was very tough to fish. We left the dock late morning and by this time the West Van shoreline was not fishable. We went to Hole in the Wall and the Sunset Beach area. We had a decent day in the end we ended up with a 20lb Spring and 2 Jacks which are just undersize mature Spring salmon both weighed about 7lbs. We had a bunch of dungeness crab so with the wind a not so bad day in the end.
Another great day on the water around vancouver flat calm and sunny. A few miles south of T10 the fishing was abit slower today but some nice fish were still caught the boat i talked to got a nice Spring a few Jack Springs and lost a beauty beside the boat. In the afternoon we fished the West Van shoreline again near the Capilano River and kept 3 nice Coho, releases a wild Coho, released 2 undersize Springs, and lost a few Coho not as good as yesterday but still a good afternoon. The crabbing remains very good with lots of big dungeness crab we picked our 12 legal crab and threw a bunch back. Hopefully no big rain comes those Coho should just keep stcking up near the Capilano river. Untill next time good luck.
Today was another great day on the waters around Vancouver. The fishing was hot off Naniamo off five fingers again today all Spring salmon. On our side of the Strait of Georgia some boats did real well off the Fraser River. The best spot seemed to be South of T10 a few miles with one of the boats from our dock getting 6 legal Spring between 15lbs and 27lbs and releasing 5 Jack Spring which are mature undersize fish. On our trip today we left in the afternoon to fish the flood tide on the West Van shoreline Near the Capilano river. We had none stop action for the 3hrs we were there we only were fishing 2 rods. We limited out on hatchery Coho between 5 and 8lbs released a few wild Coho, a hatchery Coho, an undersize Spring and lost a Spring which our lovely friend the seal took from us. If this rain stays away these Coho should just keep stacking up mixed in with some nice Springs. There were several more schools of Coho down there today from a few days ago when i was down there. A boat fishing in deaper water than us had two nice Springs in the boat but no Coho so there are numbers of both species down there. it’s looking up as long as the weather helps us out. The crabbing is still very good with quite a few large dungeness crab. Till next time good luck.
