What a beautiful day to be on the water in the Strait of Georgia. We left Horseshoe Bay at 1130am and headed out of Howe Sound to the South end of Bowen island. We got our gear down around noon 4 miles of Roger Curtis. We trolled around for an hour or so and didn’t see much. There was no wind and the Stait of Georgia was flat calm

we headed over to Gabriolla Island. On the way over we saw Dolphin to make the ride more enjoyable. We got out gear down at 3pm at the Grande we then saw a big bunch of birds and 8 to 10 bald eagles  feeding on a school of big herring that was on the surface. We started to show feed on the bottom as we were nearing Whale bone Bay. We then started to get quite abit of action  with bottom fish we ended the day with 9 rock cod  , 2 flounder, 1 lingcod, 5 pacific cod, and we did get a nice Spring salmon . It was a great day on the water with plenty off fish probably would of done better for salmon but there were just to many bottom fish. We stopped fishing at 7pm to get back before dark . On the way back we saw the Dolphin in the middle of the straight again. The crab traps   did well with a good number of large Dundeness crab. The fishing should just get batter hopefully the weather stays like it was today and we’ll be able to get across the straight and to fish off the South end of Bowen Island. If you have any questions feel free to call until next time good luck.

Olympic fishing Report Feb 8th

The Winter Spring fishery has started to get better and with this nice warm weather what a great way to spend a day on the water. Fishing in English Bay on the flood tide from the Capilano river to 25th street seems to be producing a few undersize and legal fish. The west side of Bowen island Tunstall, 3rd marker, and Hutt island have produced some nice fish in the last week.  The fishing usually heats up at this time of  year as the Herring start to move into the area.  Crabbing has been great for Dungeness crab.   Prawning has been great also. For fishing at this time of year a 6hr charter is perfect it’s just the right amount of time to explore Howe Sound.   If the weather stays this nice we should have a great couple of weeks on the water over the Olympic games.

Would be nice to see the North West wind blow itself out not very often we get 5 or 6 days in a row of it blowing down the Straight of Georgia. The last few days very few people have been able to get out to where the fish have been. The Gulf islands very few people have been able to fish, there was a boat that got out for a few hours and got into a couple nice Spring salmon and other than that it’s been rough. On our side of the Straight of Georgia there has been no news of anybody fishing off the Fraser River but the count in the river has been good so t10 down South should be good when the wind stops. In English Bay on the West van shoreline again very rough but the few hours that have been fishable some Coho and Spring salmon have been caught should be good when the wind dies down the Capilano River is down to a trickle again so those fish should just stack up. Howe Sound a few nice Springs have been caught again alot of these spots have been rough but some fish have been caught at Defence islands, 3rd marker (off west side of bowen island), Hutt island (off west side of bowen island), and hole in the wall which is just outside Horseshoe Bay. The good news is the wind is sappossed to die down to 10 to 15knots on friday which should make alot of these spots very fishable and hopefully get back to our calm vacouver waters that we’re used to. Crabbing is still good and should continue to be that way for the whole summer.

Still good fishing. The Gulf islands is still very good off five fingers and of the Grande just outside off Silva Bay. All nice big Springs has not been like that for years over there and it doesn’t seem like it’s slowing down. This side of the Strait of Georgia, in Howe Sounds at Hole in the Wall there has been a few nice Springs taken and a few Jack Springs also. Up Howe sound Defence has been producing Springs another good bet would be Porteau cove it’s just been great fishing everywhere else nobody has gone up there lately. The West van shoreline is still going strong for lots of Coho and the odd Spring mixed in there.

Great day on the water today in vancouver waters. We left the dock in Horeshoe bay at 7 oclock in the morning flat calm and sunny. We baited the crab traps on the way out we already had a few in there from the day before so a great start to the day. A nice 15 minute boat ride down the West van shoreline looking at all the multi million dollar homes as we have our morning coffee. We started fishing off Ambleside beach we had 3 hits in the next hour or so landing 1 nice Coho. Then we moved down the shorline more off Dundarave and had a chance at 4 more coho only landing 1 more. Not the best ratio but coho are like that some times 2 for 7 it should only get better if it does not rain each flood tide should bring a few more coho in with some springs in there as well. A boat beside us got about a 12lbs spring. We trolled the West van shoreline till about 1130 then cruised back to the crab traps picked up a few more crab and back to the dock. Not a bad day on the water great people, a bunch of crab, quite abit of action salmon wise, and 2 nice hatchery coho for the barbeque. If  possible fish this area during the week, it is better than the weekend to stay away from the crowds. The Gulf islands have still been ok some boats have been in the right spot at the right time and have done very well while a boat half a mile away gets nothing we’d still love to see the fish move inshore more so it’s in a more consentrated area. T10 there has been a few Springs taken which is off the middle arm of the Fraser river. Till next time cheers Mark

A few Springs have been getting caught in the Gulf islands with them moved inshore to Thrasher Rock and the Grande with a 30lb Halibut getting caught at Thrasher rock trolling the bottom. On this side of the Straight of Georgia, Howe sound there’s still a few Springs getting caught at Hole in the Wall and Grace islands. The West Van shoreline in English Bay has started to produce a few Spring salmon and some Coho also. The tides get better for fishing the West van shoreline next week with a good flood in the morning which is the tide we want to fish as the fish get pushed to the Capilano river you don’t want to fish this area when the tide is ebbing. Crabbing is still been very good with lots of big dungeness crab around 7 inches across the back. It usually is slow the first 2 or 3 weeks of June then the West van area usually heats up as long as it does not rain much and Salmon rock and Howe sound pick up for Springs heading to the Squamish river.
