Vancouver Salmon Fishing report Sept 11th 2018

     Well hard to say anything else except August and so far in September the fishing can’t get much better.  The Sockeye run off the Fraser was incredible as was the Coho fishing in English bay with a few Spring salmon mixed in.  
     As i write this both fisheries are still good but will start to tail off soon and we will be switching over for our last real good fishery of returning fish on the West vancouver shoreline or on full day trips the South arm of the Fraser river can be an option.  
    We have a few dates remaining in September and the start of October.  For the West Vancouver fishery we only fish the flood tides as the fish get pushed toward the Capilano river so a lot of days it does not mean early mornings it is when the tide is right.  This last fishery is keying on Spring, Coho and in later September the Chum salmon.  To book a charter or ask questions feel free to give us a call and i can answer any questions you have and get you out on the right tide.  Enjoy the pictures of some of our happy charter customers over the last month with there catch. 

    If you are thinking of trying to get them yourself the gear we use is Gibbsdelta flashers the Watermark white, blue or chartreuse, or the trusty reliable chartreuse glow and can’t wait to try the new herring aide flasher they should be great also.  This fishery i mainly am a bait guy so using rhys davis heads with a 5 to 8ft leaders but some hootchies and spoons should work great also.

Fishing Report March 11, 2010

Well Spring time seems to be here. Fishing this winter was decent one day then slow the next day. There wasn’t that much feed around this winter if you found feed you usually picked up a few nice winter Springs. The Crabbing and Prawning this winter has been nothing short of amazing this should continue for both till the comercial prawning starts usually some time in June. This is the time of year in Vancouver we start to get a good number of Spring salmon showing up in the Straight of Georgia, Off the Fraser River, in Howe Sound, and for full day trips the Gulf Islands. The Herring have moved into the Straight to spawn in good numbers and the Spring salmon are usually not far behind. In the last week or so there have been a few Springs caught off Point Grey to the North Arm mostly just undersize with a few nice ones mixed in. The West side of Bowen seem to have bigger fish with some nice fish getting caught at Hutt Island, 3rd Marker, and Tunstall Bay. The South end of Bowen island starts to heat up at the end of March and goes till May. The crabbing in Howe Sound remains great all year round there’s no commercial fishery for them at any time in this area. This is the time of year everybody puts there boats back in the water and the marinas turn from ghost towns to full of boaters. They’ll be alot more people out fishing in the next few weeks so we’ll get a lot better idea of where the fish are and what they’re eating better having 100 boats spread out everywhere fishing to 10 or so boats fishing in the winter. Fishing Report Aug. 11th and 12th

The last few days had mixed results. Aug. 11th was the first day after the real big rain we had the day before. The harbour remains slow (English Bay, West Van shoreline). There were a few fish caught but most boats went home empty handed. We went up Howe Sound with our fingers crossed that the Pinks were still there. The fishing was quite good but nothing like it had been. We got our limit of 8 Pinks lost a bunch and released about half a dozen. Aug. 12th a few more fish got hit in English Bay near the Bell Buoy. One boat ended up with a near 30lb and a 20lb Spring. In Howe Sound we crossed our fingers and headed up Howe Sound again to try our luck at Pinks. The first hour was pretty good fishing we ended up with 5 Pinks fed 3 to a seal and lost 5 or 6. After that first hour it went dead we didn’t see very many fish at all fin or jump after that. We hope that this is a one day event and that they haven’t gone up the Squamish River. There’re a lot of fish still coming down we’ll just have to see where these fish end up. The weather sounds like after the next day or so it’s going to get better hopefully the fish stack up like they did before that rain.

Fishing Report Aug. 10th

Well the rain came and was it ever a downpour. For the few brave people that went fishing today up the Howe Sound, were they ever rewarded. There were Pink salmon everywhere! The 4 boats that I saw at the Spot where I was fishing, all limited out very quickly. We all released a alot of salmon as well. Today, we kept our 8 Pinks and released over 20 more in the morning. Hopefully this fishing continues!

Fishing Report July 28th

Another warm and sunny day on the waters around vancouver. Very calm and hot today on the water. The West Van shoreline produced a few fish today. We fished for a few hours today kept 1 Pink and lost 3 Pinks and realeased 4 little Lingcod. Another boat near the Fishery Station hit a Coho, and a Pink. The Gulf Isalnds produced again with a boat getting a 15lb Halibut and 2 Springs around 20lbs each and lost 2 others at Thrasher Rock. It’s very surprising that a Halibut keeps getting hit every few days a great sign if they stick around. Howe Sound a few more Pinks showed up at Furry Creek with a few of the beach casters getting a few more today early in the morning. Crabbing remains very good for Dungeness Crab. Getting close to August a few more fish showing up every day looks great for August.

Fishing Report July 27th

Vancouver Salmon Fishing is continuing to get better after weeks of being slow. The West Van shoreline is producing Pinks, Coho, Springs and evan getting an odd Sockeye. The Pinks and Sockeye have started to show up in the last week. The start of over 20 million returning to the Vancouver area and the river systems. Howe Sound the start off the Squamish Pinks have started to show up not in huge numbers yet but by August Howe Sound will be stacked with them. The Gulf Islands are still producing some very nice Springs and surprisingly a few more Halibut were hit this week. Things look great for August and September. Crabbing remains great, lots of big dungeness crab nothing like a crab and salmon barbeque after a day on the water. August is filling up book now for a great day on the water Vancouver Salmon Fishing.

Fishing Report July 16th

Fishing has been picking up the last few days. With the water being calm the last few days people have gotten over to the Gulf Islands. Thrasher Rock and the Grande have produced. Some boats have done very well limiting out on Spring salmon up to 30lbs most fish seem to be in the high teens. This fishery is great you drag the bottom so you’re usually busy with some kind off bottom fish if you don’t have a Spring on. On this side off the Straight of Georgia, Howe Sound some nice Springs have been taken off Hole in the Wall, Grace, and Salmon Rock. In English Bay the Bell Buoy has quite a few undersize Springs with the odd big one. The West van shoreline seems to still be active when you get on top off a school of Coho with a Spring mixed in. I got my first Sockeye of the year yesterday off the sailing club off 14th street that was a surprise hitting a spoon we also lost a Coho, had a couple other hits, a few small salmon, and a few cod when we were dragging the bottom off the pink apartment. There seems to be quite alot of small salmon (grilse) on there way out to see a good sign for years to come.

Fishing Report July 6th

The fishing in the Vancouver area over the weekend had some good results. The West van shoreline has slowed down there’re a few schools of Coho down there so if you hit one you can do well and a few nice Springs were hit. T10 to the South arm some boats did quite qell this weekend for Springs but it was you were a hero or a zero. It looks like the Squamish fish have started to arrive into Howe Sound. There’ve been fish caught at Salmon Rock, the west side of Bowen, and Hole in the Wall to Sunset marina. Hole in the Wall yesterday had a fresh run off Springs come in the biggest I know off was 33lbs and one boat kept 3 Springs another kept 2 and about another half dozen were caught in the last say or so. They were all white Springs so definetly Squamish fish. If this is the start of the Squamish fish coming in the next couple weeks in Howe Sound will be the place to be. Nothing like a 5 minute run to the fishing grounds. Crabbing is still good with lots of large dungeness crab should stay this way for most of the summer.

Fishing Report July 1st

Would be nice to see the North West wind blow itself out not very often we get 5 or 6 days in a row of it blowing down the Straight of Georgia. The last few days very few people have been able to get out to where the fish have been. The Gulf islands very few people have been able to fish, there was a boat that got out for a few hours and got into a couple nice Spring salmon and other than that it’s been rough. On our side of the Straight of Georgia there has been no news of anybody fishing off the Fraser River but the count in the river has been good so t10 down South should be good when the wind stops. In English Bay on the West van shoreline again very rough but the few hours that have been fishable some Coho and Spring salmon have been caught should be good when the wind dies down the Capilano River is down to a trickle again so those fish should just stack up. Howe Sound a few nice Springs have been caught again alot of these spots have been rough but some fish have been caught at Defence islands, 3rd marker (off west side of bowen island), Hutt island (off west side of bowen island), and hole in the wall which is just outside Horseshoe Bay. The good news is the wind is sappossed to die down to 10 to 15knots on friday which should make alot of these spots very fishable and hopefully get back to our calm vacouver waters that we’re used to. Crabbing is still good and should continue to be that way for the whole summer.

Fishing report June 27th

After that bad weather a few days ago that brought all that rain things have seemed to have settled down to sunny with a few clouds. The West van shoreline there’re are a few nice Coho getting caught with a Spring salmon mixed in there. The Capilano River is back down to a trickle after that rain which is great the fish will start to stack up on the West van shoreline again every flood tide a few more should arrive. T10 and South a few nice Springs got caught this morning with a few Jack Springs mixed in. Howe Sound looks good again with one boat this morning getting a 31lb, 22lb and a few Jack Springs all on the West side of Bowen island. Hole in the Wall right outside Horeshoe Bay a few nice Springs have been taken the last few days with a 25lb being the biggest i’ve herd of. Up Howe sound Defence islands has produced some nice Springs so it looks like the Squamish fish have started to come into Howe Sound making there way up. The Gulf islands with the water being abit rough the last few days not many people have been fishing them the water should calm down in the next few days and people will be heading back over there. The crabbing has been great as usual with lots of bid Dungeness crab.
