Another decent week around Vancouver with the gulf islands really started to come on. With the weather being better this week people have been out on the water a bit more and more fish have been hit. Howe sound has died off a bit but not many people have been fishing the sound since the South end of Bowen island has started to produce. There seems to be good days followed by a slower day. One reason for this is the killer whales have come by a few times this week so have a few big groups of dolphin. The salmon have generally been caught between 100 – 150ft on a mixture of spoons, hootchies, and bait. The fish that have been caught have been 14 to 20lbs real nice fish for this time of year. The Gulf islands from North of Naniamo to Thrasher has been nothing but excelent. Mainly fishing offshore 2 to 4 miles many boats have been limiting out with fish between 15 – 25lbs and it should continue with the South end of Bowen getting better also as the fish move down. Most of the fish over the other side of the Strait have been caught between 120 – 180 ft on spoons and hootchies. Crabbing and prawning remain good. Good luck till next time

In the last few days a few more fish have been getting picked up. The Capilano area has been producing some fish on the flood tide and the fish have been getting caught near the bottom and generally in the 8 to 12lb range. In Howe Sound Defence islands, Grace islands, Gower point, and 3rd Marker a few fish have been getting hit. It seems to be what place has the bait you hit a couple fish a good sign with April coming up quickly and when Vancouvers salmon fishing usually starts to heat up off the South end of Bowen island in the first couple weeks of the month. We got out for a few hours on Sunday and headed over to 3rd Marker when the ebb tide started the bait moved in and we hit a just undersize at 173ft on an army truck spoon and lost another undersize at 133ft right of the waterfall on bait. As quick as the bait showed up it disappeared and we hit nothing else. Since it was such a nice day we headed off the South end of Bowen island to try evan though it’s a week or two early we did see quite a bit of bait but hit nothing but it was flat calm and sunny. We didn’t see any seals either which generally tells you the South end of Bowen has not started yet. I’m out tomorrow for the first real fish of the year if the weather lets us so until tomorrow good luck and hope the weather stays like it’s.

The fishing has picked up quite abit in the last few days around vancouver. In the last few days there have been some fish caught in English Bay, the Bell Buoy, the South end of Bowen, and Grace island. Hopefully the last few days is the start of our Spring fishery. English bay off the Capilano to the Dundarave peir on the flood has produced a few nice Spring from being just undersize to the mid teens. The Bell Buoy there were a few more smaller undersize fish with a few legal fish in the 8 to 14lb range. In Howe Sound at Grace island a boat had a few good hours there losing a nice fish getting a nice fish and two undersize fish also. The South end of Bowen island it seems the better luck has been a mile or two off Cowans to Roger Curtis. The fish here have ranged in size from just legal to about 15lbs with one boat yesterday getting three legal and losing two other good ones in a short time. The Gulf islands seem to have picked up abit also so everything seems to have started. This is the time of year we go out one day and we get busy it seems to be heading that way it usually happens in mid April. If you have any questions feel free to call and you’ll get an honest answer have a great day.
