Another great week in the Vancouver salmon charter season. This week had a mixed bag but turned out to be great for us with limits of Spring salmon and with a surprising amount of Coho showing up here and there across the Strait of Georgia that we released. If you want to know what’s going on up to the minute follow @salmoncharter on twitter or like watermark fishing charters on Facebook.
The Gulf islands were great again this week with lots of Springs and some days a lot of Coho which is a great sign to see them at this time of year. We mainly fished off Thrasher rock and the gear that works best was Gibbs Highliner flashers chartreuse glow. At the start of the week hotchies were best but in the last few days SilverHorde 3.5in spoons were the best and mainly Homeland security, Irish cream and the Kitchen sink rocked. Check out my twitter to see pictures of the fish we were getting.
This side of the straight there was some good fishing. Today guys did well in Tunstal bay and throughout the week fish have been caught off the QA, point Atkinson, the south end of Bowen island, and a few at hole in the wall. A mixture of spoons, hootchies and bait seem to be working best.
To do a charter to the Gulf islands a full day charter is required while local fishing we advise a 5 or 6hour trip. Crabbing remains great with Dungeness crab caught in Howe sound. Give us a call for any questions and to book a charter with the weather supposed to be nice next week it’s a great time to book a charter. With the numbers of Coho showing up in the straight already it looks like we will have a great fishery for them in the upcoming months. Until next time good luck. Watermark
The Gulf Islands, across the strait, at Thrasher rock has been smoking most days with double digit fish getting hit. The weather is supposed to be calm and sunny all week so now is the time to book.
