Vancouver fishing report July 17th 2012

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

In the last week the Vancouver salmon fishing has had some mixed results.  The Gulf islands has slowed down a bit with a few nice Springs getting caught and even a few small halibut been caught while trolling.  This side of the Straight a few nice fish have been caught up Howe sound at hole in the wall mainly Spring salmon but evan a few Coho have been caught.  The West van shoreline is where most people have been fishing between the fisheries station and the mouth of the Capilano.  Mainly Coho have been caught and some mornings have been quite good for 3 to 7lbs with the odd Spring salmon mixed in.  The Bell buoy has also produced some nice Spring salmon.  Hopefully the dry weather continues and fishing should get better especially if the Capilano river dries up and the fish can’t get up the river they should start to stack up.  The crabbing remains very good and prawning good also.  Call for anymore questions you have to ask and evan if it’s not fishing related i will help you out anyway i can.  Untill next time good luck Mark

Vancouver Fishing report June 13th 2012

Another interesting week in the Vancouver charter scene.  The local areas have not been fished that much in the last week when calm most people are still heading over to the Gulf islands.  For the West van shoreline we’re waiting for the weather to dry up and when the Capilano river starts to go down fish will start to show up on the shoreline from the river to the pink apartments.  In Howe sound a few fish have been hit at Tunstal, 3rd Marker, and Hole in the wall and an odd one still getting hit off the South end of Bowen island.

The Gulf islands is still the place most people have gone with Springs getting caught from 5 Fingers to Thrasher rock.  Early in the week fish seemed to still be getting caught offshore but in the last few days dragging bottom off the Grande and Thrasher Rock have started to produce.  Most fish are still getting caught on Hoochies , and spoons.  Most days are still very good and should continue to be good for the next month at least.  Full day trips are needed for Gulf island trips but it’s well worth it.

The crabbing and prawning remain very good in Howe Sound a great way to end a charter with a bucket full of seafood.  Until next time good luck if you have any questions feel free to call and ask i will help you out any way i can.

Vancouver Fishing Charter Report May 21, 2010

The Vancouver fishing charters in the last week have had some great results. When the weather has been nice and calm the salmon fishing has mainly been good. Most fishing charters have still been going to the South end of Bowen island or to the Gulf islands to fish the Grande, and Thrasher rock off Gabriolla island. We have been staying on this side of the straight for our charters so far, mainly because we have done well check out the pics on the site in photos or on twitter (@salmoncharter) to see a few of them. I wasn’t out this weekend as  I was away, but a few friends of mine kept 4 nice Spring each yesterday off the South end of Bowen island mainly getting caught between 70-100ft. The Gulf islands were a bit slower this weekend but probably mainly because the Killer whales have gone through 3 or 4 times in the last week. The days that they haven’t gone through people have mainly done pretty well. Howe sound has seemed to of slowed down abit but very few people have been fishing it, there have been a few nice fish caught in Seymour bay, and Tunstal Bay. English bay has been fished a bit near the Bell buoy and a few nice Springs have been caught there in the last week also. There are some nice Coho in the Capilano hatchery already but I haven’t heard of any Coho (Silvers), Springs (Kings) caught along the West Van shoreline yet it’s a bit early but in the next few weeks when we get some nice weather and the Capilano river comes down we will start to pick fish up there when they’re unable to go straight up the river and start to stack up. We’re out this week a few times weather depending it’s a great time of year for a Vancouver fishing charters. The Crabbing and Prawning still remain very good in Howe Sound. Call for any questions you have i will help you any way i can if it’s about fishing or about what to do in Vancouver or where to stay. Until next time good luck.

Fishing report May 12 2012

Another great day on the water in the Vancouver area.  We didn’t do a long trip today but it was a blast it was flat calm and sunny so we headed out to where we were fishing the day before.  We had a chance at a few nice Springs today we lost one well into the 20’s and lost a smaller one we never saw and ended up with a nice 20lb Spring.

We got them in the same general area as yesterday.  We checked the crab traps and did very well for Dungeness crab we kept 8.  There were also fish caught in most places today. English Bay there were a couple boats that ended up with a couple legal Springs each and boats over at Thrasher were getting a few nice legal Springs also with the biggest one being close to 30lbs.  On the Vancouver side of the strait it seems bait is catching most fish with an odd one getting caught on spoons while in the Gulf islands mainly hootchies, and spoons seem to be getting most of them over there.    Good luck till next time call to book a day  fishing in Vancouver or if you have any questions feel free to ask i will help you out any way i can.   Good luck Mark

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report – May 11, 2012

We had a great day on the water today.  We left the dock at 930am and headed out from the marina in West Vancouver and headed out to the South end of Bowen Island.  We started a couple miles off Bowen island and started to troll West.  The water off of the city of Vancouver in the Strait of Georgia was flat calm and sunny what a great day to be on the water for a Vancouver salmon charter.  In the next 3hrs we had 9 hits we limited out with our 4 Spring salmon, released a legal fish, an undersize, lost 2, and had 2 hits that didn’t stick.  The fish ranged from 11lb to 17lbs and our best lures were bait, fishing 40ft to 100ft.   The crabbing and prawning still remains good in Howe Sound.

Another happy customer hopefully tomorrow is calm, sunny, and the fishing just as good.  The Gulf islands were a bit slower today but the Killer Whales went through last night it should pick up again to red hot how it was in a few days ago.  Call to book a charter or if you need any questions asked feel free to call (+1 604-816-8944).   Until next time good luck  Mark

Over the last week the Vancouver salmon charter season has picked up quite a bit with some great results.  Fish have been caught in English bay, Howe sound, off the South end of Bowen island , and the Gulf islands have been nothing but spectacular.  Most people have been fishing off the South end of Bowen if they’re staying on this side of the straight with pretty steady results

.   The Gulf islands have been great these trips are for day charters and alot of boats have been getting there limit of nice Spring salmon up to the mid 20lb range.  Mainly fishing offshore from the Grande and Thrasher rock.  The crabbing remains excellent and so does the prawning in Howe sound.  Call for any questions you have it’s a great time to get on the water while this first run of Spring salmon hang around.  Untill next time good luck

Fishing report April 29th 2012

Hi there, the last week the Vancouver the salmon fishing has picked up. There have been a good number of fish caught in different spots letting us know fish have arrived. English bay, right outside the city of Vancouver, has been producing Spring salmon at the mile markers to the bell Buoy. The South end of Bowen island, like last year, has started later than in past years but has started with a bang. Some real nice Springs up to 21lbs have been caught with quite a few in the 14 to 17lb range. Most fish have been caught in the top 100ft mainly on anchovies and a few on hootchies. Great way to start last year the run peaked the second week of May. The Gulf islands have really picked up. Off the Grande and Thrasher rock in deaper water many boats the last few days have done very well. Some boats got there limit of Springs in the high teens to low 20’s and it didn’t seem to matter if you were in 600ft of water or in a 1000ft of water. This is a great way to do a 8hr to full day charter and with the fish showing up it can be one of those fishing trips of a lifetime. All these areas should just keep getting better over the next few weeks and we can say the vancouver slamon fishing charter season has started. The crabbing remains great in the Howe Sound area and prawning also. The commercial prawn fishing starts in a week so the prawning will drop off a bit then but usually still stays pretty good. Until next time good luck if you have any questions feel free to call and i will help you out any way i can. Tight lines MArk

Vancouver Fishing report April 22nd, 2012

Fishing in Vancouver has had some mixed results over the past few days.  It looks like it has slowed down on the West side of Bowen island but part of that is most people have started to fish the South end of Bowen island.  There have been a few nice fish caught up Howe Sound at Defense islands mainly on spoons.  English bay near the bell Buoy has produced some nice fish in the last few days generally near the low slack.  The fish seem to be in the 10 – 14lb range and getting caught in the 80-100ft depth.  The South end of Bowen island has been decent also with a few boats doing well.  Fish seem to be getting caught between 90-140ft on spoons or anchovies.  The fish have been ranging from 10-14lbs similair to the Bell Buoy area but i do know of a few bigger fish getting close to the 20lb range.

The gulf Islands is experiencing  some great days with boats limiting out.  The fish seem to be offshore not in close to the Grande or Thrasher rock like they quite often are.  The Springs seem to be out 2 to 4 miles offshore and getting caught on spoons mainly between 120-180ft.

The crabbing has slowed down a bit but is still good. Prawning is great and fishing seems to be picking up everywhere a little bit every day.  Local waters are great for a 5 or 6hr charter or if you want to head out to the Gulf islands a full day is best and a great way to spend the day.  Good luck till next time if you have any questions feel free to call I will help you any way I can to make your Vancouver salmon fishing trip be the best it can be.

Fishing report April 15 2012

Hi there, what a great weekend on the water. Saturday was really to rough for anybody to fish off the South end of Bowen island, so the few people that did fish hid where it was calm and there wasn’t much going on except enjoying the sun. Sunday was a different story there was a bunch of the Vancouver fishing charter boats out and most boats had at least one legal and the top boat i know had 3 legal Spring salmon. This is the time of year that the vancouver salmon fishing starts to heat up. In the last week the Gulf islands and off Nanimo have produced with a few boats limiting out on Springs which is a great sign for us. Most fish were caught on spoons and down 140ft – 180ft. Today it started to heat up in Vancouver in the Bell buoy area. Most fish were caught between 70 – 100ft a few on spoons but most were caught on bait. With that news a lot more people will be fishing including myself and we should really get a good idea in the next week on how many fish are out there. Crabbing remains good and prawning is excellent. It’s a great time of year to do a fishing charter call for any more info that you need and i will be happy to help out. Until next time good luck Mark

Salmon Charters 2012 – Getting Started.

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

It’s that time of year again. After spending the last 2 months in Nicaragua enjoying the sun and snorkelling i’m back to get the boat in the water for another charter season and hopefully it’s as good as last year. The fishing has started to heat up already with Springs getting caught on the west side of Bowen island at 3rd marker, and Tunstal. Grace islands a few are getting picked up also. The Herring spawn was very good again in the lower Strait of Georgia and up Howe Sound which is usually a great sign for the months to come. The Gulf islands a few Springs have been picked up but not many people have fished there so in the next few weeks when the weather gets better we will get a better idea of how it’s over there when we start to get over there. The South end of Bowen is the spot we like to see start to heat up at this time of year a few fish have got caught but again very few people have fished there yet and by the middle of April is when that run hits usually and a lot more people will have there boats in the water and we will get a real good idea what’s going on out there. The Watermark will be hitting the water in the next day or so and ready for charters a few days after. If you want any info on a charter feel free to call the middle of April to the end of April will book up pretty quick so book a day. Hope you all had a great winter see you soon Mark.

Sorry for so long between the Vancouver fishing reports.  The Gulf islands have slowed down quite abit but there’s still a few nice Springs over there and some nice ling cod have been caught.  Over this side of the Strait of Georgia a few Pinks have started to show up in front of the millions that are coming.  Enlgish bay has been producing a few Coho, Spring, and a few Pinks mainly on the West van shoreline from the pink apartments to point Atkinson.  Howe Sound has produced also some people did pretty good for the early pinks at Furry Creek, and Mc Nabb Creek casting in the shallows for them with an odd nice Spring getting caught while trolling also.  We fished today just North of Sunset marina we didn’t get off the dock till 9am but we got a nice 15lb Spring 2 Pinks and lost 3 pinks and saw a bunch more jump.  We checked the prawn traps on the way in and got about 70 prawns so not a bad day for getting a late start.  These Pinks should be here by the millions any day.  Feel free to give me a call with any questions i will be glad to help.  Untill next time good luck and tight lines Mark.

July 12 Fishing report

The salmon fishing around vancouver the last few weeks has had some great days, good days and some ok days.  If you live in vancouver you know what i’m talking about the weather has not been good so far this summer its rained alot.  This time of year we mainly fish the West vancouver shoreline for a mixture of Coho and Spring salmon but with all this rain the Capilano river is running very high and the fish have been going straight up so this fishery hasn’t really started yet but if we get a week of sun the river will lower and the fish should start to stack up near the river mouth.  Since this fishery hasn’t happened yet we have been fishing Howe sound more on local salmon charters Hole in the Wall, West side of Bowen, and up the sound at Defence islands.  These spot have all produced good days but also with a few bad days with the fish ranging in the 12lb to 20lb range.  The best bet in town is still the Gulf islands at the Grande or Thrasher rock.  There has still been a few great days and most days are still good.  Springs running in the 13lb to 20lb range.  The prawning and crabbing remain good and the good news is the comercail prawn fishery is over so lots of room to put your traps out without being worried about the commercial guys putting there gear on top of yours.  We’re only a couple weeks away from the Pink salmon run which could be up to 40 million of them.  If you’re thinking of a trip book now we’re getting filled up.  If you have any questions about a trip please feel free to call and any other information you would like to know about vancouver.  Good luck till the next report.
