With the nice weather in the last week a few more boats got out and got some decent fishing reports from in English bay to the Gulf islands. In English bay there have been more undersized fish caught with a few nice springs mixed in usually fishing the flood near the mouth of the Capilano river. The bait has shown back up in this area in the last week and the fish usually aren’t far behind. In this area within sight of downtown Vancouver we have been mainly using Gibbs flashers and there smaller spoons.
The West side of Bowen island there have been a few nice fish taken at Tunstal, 3rd Marker, Hutt island , and Grace. In these spots spoons seem to be getting most fish with the Silver Hordes, or the Gypsies mainly in the smaller sizes. The fish in these areas tend to be a lot bigger than the ones in the harbor and on the West Van shoreline.
Up Howe Sound at Defence island there have started to be some nice fish also one boat went out for a few hours in the past week and ended up getting 2 close to 20lbs. Not many people fish up there it’s a long run and for a lot of people it’s not much farther to go to the Gulf islands.
The hot spot in the last couple weeks is the Gulf islands at Porlier pass. Some days have been nothing but spectacular with boats those days limiting out. Again most fish have been getting caught on Gibbs flashers and on Silver Hordes and Gibbs Gypsies in the smaller sizes. There has not been any news from Thrasher rock or the Grande yet but with Porlier being so good those fish are moving somewhere and those spots if not already good should be very soon.
We have still been doing very well for spotted prawns and Dungeness crab in Howe sound and this usually remains strong for months it’s a great way to end a Vancouver fishing charter.
